Yes. If the 'average' American earns ~X, or the 'average' earnings of Americans are ~Y, you still don't know what any individual you meet, earns. It's one of the reasons I don't like the (over)reliance on protocols or Occam's razor. Both can blind you to the outliers.
And yes, absolutely enjoy our own spicy selves! It's what gives 'sjeu' to the world. (sjeu = Dutch ~ mojo, oomph, pizzazz, sparkle => makes it interesting).
